When my legal-eagle brother-in-law decided to leave rural Utah and take a job in the DA’s office in Los Angeles, his mother’s first thought was to run an internet search for Home Security California. He thought his mom was being more than a little over protective. What would a big, tough, manly lawyer like him want with a home security system? He was more than certain that he would be able to handle himself in the big city. Then his mother asked, “What about your flat screen? Would it be able to ‘handle’ itself while you are at work? Or your lap top, video games, or stereo?” That’s when searching for California home security systems suddenly seemed like a good idea. I think having a security system in place will sound like an even better idea when he finds out just how much of today’s security technology can be controlled by his phone. His mother has volunteered to help him shop for a security system. Of course, she has ulterior motives. Remember the smart phone connection? Wireless home security systems can be monitored by various apps on various phones, which comes in handy for husbands and wives or other types of co-habitations to check in on things at different times. Of course, these same apps could also come in handy for a mom who wants to check in on her son who is living so far from home. But don’t tell my brother-in-law that. I’d hate to ruin his mother’s well-intentioned plan.

It’s always good news when neighbors look out for one another. This Sacramento home security story takes “keeping an eye out” to a new level.

Several observant neighbors saw and acted valiantly by stopping three burglary suspects, and chasing them. When the neighbors saw these burglars in action, one neighbor jumped on their horses, and another one pounced on his bike and together they chased and cornered the thieves. Another neighbor called the police, who were able to take the would-be burglars into custody with some of the stolen items.

This is a remarkable story, and one that highlights how observant and mindful neighbors can be. Of course no one should chase after burglary suspects as they may be carrying weapons, however a quick call to police can increase the chances that the suspects will be caught. Citizen neighborhood watch patrols are so successful because thieves will avoid areas where they are more likely to be seen or caught.

This Sacramento community was extraordinarily lucky to have fearless citizens, but you can be just as affective, and remain safe, by keeping an eye and ear open to the homes and people who live near you. Keeping criminals away is not only the job of the police, but it is also the job if each and every resident.
